Framed Print of Reise durch das Sauerland
Eine besondere geschichtliche Merkwürdigkeit aber hat Dortmund. Das ist die Fehmlinde mit dem Freistuhl. Die Fehmgerichte waren eine besondere Eigenart der Rechtspflege auf westfälischem Boden, die sich durch die Unzulänglichkeit der kaiserlichen Gerichte entwickelte. Sie sind im 14. bzw. 15. Jahrhundert entstanden (veme = Strafe), auch heilige Feme oder Freigerichte oder auch westfälische oder heimliche Gerichte genannt. Sie beruhten auf karolingischer Gerichtsverfassung; die Verleihung des Blutbanns (d.h. Ausübung der hohen Gerichtsbarkeit, die befugt ist, mit dem Tode zu bestrafen) stand dem König, bzw. dem Landesherrn zu. Der Erzbischof von Köln war als Herzog von Westfalen oberster Stuhlherr der Feme. Freistuhl ist der Ort, an dem das Gericht stattfindet. Freischöffen sind die, die das Urteil vollstrecken. Das ordentliche Verfahren fand nur auf roter Erde statt, d.h. In Westfalen. Zum Zeichen, daß ein Urteil der Feme vollstreckt worden war, lag neben dem Getöteten ein Dolch mit den Buchstaben S.S.G.G. (d.h. Strick, Stein, Gras, Grein), dem Geheimzeichen der Freischöffen. Der Freistuhl in Dortmund war der höchste auf der roten Erde, Er befindet sich nahe beim Hauptbahnhof.

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
