Da fesselt uns vor allem die Peterskirche, die größte Kirche der Welt. Von dem mächtigen Vorplatz mit dem großen Obelisk und dem Springbrunnen hat man einen herrlichen Blick. Ruhig und majestätisch präsentiert sich der gewaltige Dom, doch fühlt man seine Größe erst allmählich. Über der Mitteltür ist die Loggia, von der aus die Wahl des neuen Papstes verkündet wird. Die Freitreppe nimmt eine Fläche von rund 48 ar ein. Die gewaltige Kuppel mit ihren wunderschönen Formen ist 141 m hoch (Türme in Köln: 157 m) und hat einen Durchmesser von 42 m. Man nennt sie das Pantheon in der Luft. Über dem Dache erhebt sich die Kuppel noch ca. 100 m. Man kann sie bequem besteigen bis in die Kuppel unter dem Kreuze. Diese Kuppel bietet noch Raum für ca. 18 Personen. Begonnen wurde die Kirche 1506 und 1626 eingeweiht. Die jährlichen Unterhaltungskosten belaufen sich auf 150.000 Mark. Die bebaute Fläche beträgt 23.000 qm. Am unteren Rande der Kuppel ist eine Inschrift, deren Buchstaben 2 m hoch sind. Die vier Pfeiler, auf denen die Kuppel ruht, haben jeder 71 m Umfang. Der Baldachin über dem Altar ist 28 m hoch. Der ganze Altar bedeckt eine Fläche von 180qm. Vor dem Altar ist der Abstieg zu dem Raum unter dem Altar, die Confessio S. Petri, dem Grab des Apostelfürsten. Das Innere des Petersdomes ist mit Gold und Marmor auf das prächtigste ausgestattet.

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
