Der vorzüglichste unter den öffentlichen Plätzen ist der Dam, der Mittelpunkt des Amsterdamer Verkehrs und Kreuzungspunkt vieler Straßenbahnlinien. Auf diesem Platz steht das königliche Schloß, ehedem Rathaus. Es wurde 1648 nach dem westfälischen Frieden unter dem Bürgermeister Tulp von dem berühmten Meister Jacob van Kampen begonnen und 1655 mit 8 Millionen Gulden Kosten vollendet. Da die obere Erdschicht des Stadtgebietes ganz aus Moor und Schlamm besteht, läßt sich kein dauerhaftes Gebäude errichten, es sei denn, daß es auf Pfählen ruht, die 4 bis 15 m tief in den festen Sand eingerammt werden. So steht denn dieser Palast auf 13.659 Pfählen. Er bildet ein längliches Viereck von 85 m Länge, ist 63 m tief und 33 m hoch. Der Turm mit Glockenspiel hat eine Höhe von 51 m.
Mit seinen streng klassischen Formen und dem nüchternen Pilastersystem, welches zur äußeren Dekoration angewendet ist, macht das Schloß einen Eindruck großer männlicher Kraft. Besonders die zahlreichen Skulpturen sichern dem Gebäude eine gute Wirkung. Bedeutend sind vor allem die beiden großen Reliefs, die die Hauptgiebel des Gebäudes ausfüllen und deren Inhalt den Glanz der mächtigen Seestadt verherrlicht. Als Königspalast kann man sich den Bau aber nicht gut denken, da er ohne wuchtigen Eingang ist, auch viel zu frei auf dem offenen Markt liegt. Die Wetterfahne auf dem Turm stellt das alte Stadtsiegel äeen Koggeschipi dar.

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
