Framed Print of Adolph Kolping - Leben und Werk
Am 4. Juli 1833 starb Mutter von Adolph Kolping, derer er später in seinen Schriften noch manchmal in rührenden Worten dankbarer Kindesliebe gedachte. Schon während seiner Tätigkeit als Schuhmachergeselle benutzte Kolping jeden freien Augenblick, um sich auch geistig weiterzubilden und manche Abend- und Nachtstunde brachte er mit Lesen zu. Damit aber verband er eine große Lieben zur Natur, Feld und Wald, Strom und Sternenhimmel waren ihm ans Herz gewachsen, ein Umstand, der auch dem späteren berühmten Volksschriftsteller sehr zustatten kam. Um sich in seinem Berufe weiter auszubilden, wandte sich Kolping anfangs der 1830er Jahre endlich nach Köln. In dieser großen Stadt lernte er das Elend des damaligen Gesellenstandes, das physische und moralische, in seiner ganzen Größe und Tiefe kennen. Tiefes Weh ergriff sein Herz, und immer unabweisbarer drängte sich ihm der Gedanke auf, seinen Stand zu wechseln und Priester zu werden. Diesen Entschluß hielt er fest, trotz aller Versuchungen, die zeitweilig an ihn herantraten und begann mit Hilfe eines ihm wohlgesinnten Geistlichen die ersten lateinischen Studien. Bald hatte er es soweit gebracht, daß er in die Tertia des Katholischen Marzellengymnasiums aufgenommen werden konnte, das er unter großen Opfern und Entbehrungen in 3 1/2 Jahren absolvierte.

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
